Publisher: Newnes | ISBN: 0750653191 | edition 2001 | PDF | 343 pages | 34,5 mb

In Understand Electronics, Owen Bishop covers the basics needed in all the main areas of electronics with a jargon-free, informative style, and numerous illustrations. An essential book for the newcomer to electronics, this highly practical guide provides a thorough introduction to practical electronics and the basic principles of electronic components and circuitry. Owen Bishop, a leading international electronics author, takes a step-by-step approach, employing the minimum of mathematics, to create a text that is ideal for the student or enthusiast who has little previous knowledge of the subject area but wishes to find out more. The new edition has been thoroughly updated throughout, with many new illustrations and coverage of recent advances in electronics, including a chapter on microcontrollers – the simple programmable devices that are transforming electronics project work. A new section on test equipment reinforces the practical emphasis of the book.

The Newnes Know It All Series takes the best of what our authors have written over the past few years and creates a one-stop reference for engineers involved in markets from communications to embedded systems and everywhere in between.

PIC design and development a natural fit for this reference series as it is one of the most popular microcontrollers in the world and we have several superbly authored books on the subject. This material ranges from the basics to more advanced topics. There is also a very strong project basis to this learning. The average embedded engineer working with this microcontroller will be able to have any question answered by this compilation. He/she will also be able to work through real-life problems via the projects contained in the book. The Newnes Know It All Series presentation of theory, hard fact, and project-based direction will be a continual aid in helping the engineer to innovate in the workplace.

With vastly increased complexity and functionality in the “nanometer era” (i.e. hundreds of millions of transistors on one chip), increasing the performance of integrated circuits has become a challenging task. This is due primarily to the inevitable increase in the distance among circuit elements and interconnect design solutions have become the greatest determining factor in overall performance.

Three-dimensional (3D) integrated circuits (ICs), which contain multiple layers of active devices, have the potential to enhance dramatically chip performance and functionality, while reducing the distance among devices on a chip. They promise solutions to the current “interconnect bottleneck” challenges faced by IC designers. They also may facilitate the integration of heterogeneous materials, devices, and signals. However, before these advantages can be realized, key technology challenges of 3D ICs must be addressed.

This is the first book on 3-D integrated circuit design, covering all of the technological and design aspects of this emerging design paradigm, while proposing effective solutions to specific challenging problems concerning the design of three-dimensional integrated circuits. A handy, comprehensive reference or a practical design guide, this book provides a sound foundation for the design of three-dimensional integrated circuits.

* Demonstrates how to overcome “Interconnect Bottleneck” with 3D Integrated Circuit Design…leading edge design techniques offer solutions to problems (performance/power consumption/price) faced by all circuit designers.
* The FIRST book on 3D Integrated Circuit Design…provides up-to-date information that is otherwise difficult to find;
* Focuses on design issues key to the product development cyle…good design plays a major role in exploiting the implementation flexibilities offered in the third dimension;
* Provides broad coverage of 3D IC Design, including Interconnect Prediction Models, Thermal Management Techniques, and Timing Optimization…offers practical view of designing 3D circuits.

Prentice Hall | 2002 | ISBN: 013061775X | 1024 pages | PDF | 37,1 MB

Praised by experts for its clarity and topical breadth, this visually appealing, one-stop source on PCs uses an easy-to-understand, step-by-step approach to teaching the fundamentals of 80×86 assembly language programming and PC architecture.

Offering users a fun, hands-on learning experience, it uses the Debug utility to show what action the instruction performs, then pres a sample program to show its application. Reinforcing concepts with numerous examples and review questions, its oversized pages delve into dozens of related subjects, including DOS memory map, BIOS, microprocessor architecture, supporting chips, buses, interfacing techniques, system programming, memory hierarchy, DOS memory management, tables of instruction timings, hard disk characteristics, and more. For learners ready to master PC system programming.
Reviews …
a very thorough and great book….

But as the other reviewer stated, this is most definitely not a book for the beginning assembly language programmer.

But for one who has been programming for many years, this book carefully and comprehensively covers the guts of the computer.

For one who has only a few years of computer work experience, you could still get through the first few chapters and write beginner-level assembly language programs.

When choosing this book, think carefully about what kind of assembler you wish to use. You can go and search on the web for “Assembler simulator” and you will see there are many variations on assembler languages as well as processors. You should pick one that fits your needs.

For the college instructor, this book comes with wonderful questions and answers. There is also a nice instructor manual. I enjoyed working through the examples, and found this book quite challenging.

…
most definately not a book for the beginning assembly language programmer. that said, this is one of the most detailed and informative books on the subject i have every had the pleasure of finding, purchasing, and reading.

the book travels deep into the electronic architecture of the humble pc and teaches you how to do things you never even knew could be done. it covers parallel port and serial port interfacing, memory architecture, graphics programming, and just about every other facet of the pc that there is in a very comprehensive and satisfying manner.

i have purchased 9 books so far published by prentice hall, and all were superb. i whole heartedly recommend to EVERYONE that if you ever need to know about something and want a book, see what prentice hall has on the subject FIRST. the quality and quantity of information and the layout and design in their publications are second to none.

if assembly language programming were a religion then this is my bible, and the authors and are my gods.

The ninth edition has been thoroughly updated to cover the latest technology and applications, including computer circuit simulation, and many diagrams have been revised to bring them in line with current usage. Updated topics include thyristors, Darlington transistors, amplifiers, ring modulators, power supplies, optoelectronics and logic circuits.

Stan Amos, formerly head of Technical Publications Section Engineering Training Department BBC, has been writing about electronics since the 1950s.

Mike James is an established author and experienced FE lecturer. He currently works for Westland. His latest Newnes titles are Microcontroller Cookbook and Higher Electronics.

The transistor circuits bible
Updated with new developments in technology and applications
Accessible step-by-step introduction ideal for novices
